Agile's campaign gets the RED carpet treatment

Agile Films recently completed work on its online series for the Powerade Inner Gear campaign, which accompanied the Six Nations rugby tournament. Adam Shakinovsky, Head of Productions at Agile Films, explains that from the outset, the brief required a camera that could shoot extremely slow motion and deliver sufficiently high resolution. “The resolution was crucial, as we needed to zoom in in post while maintaining high production value,” he explains. “We also also needed to animate over the live footage, and generally maintain the high-end production values of the rest of the campaign.”

Shakinovsky's first port of call was VMI. “We have a longstanding relationship with them, and we believe they continue to choose the best and latest innovations to pass onto us,” he says. In this case, the 'best and latest innovation' was the RED ONE camera, which “exceeded our expectations,” Shakinovsky reports.

“It was incredibly user-friendly. It handled pouring rain for the whole of the night shoot on a freezing winter evening without any adverse affects. We were filming about an hour of footage, which was easily dumped onto hard drive. Although we didn't use the camera's mic, the lens gave us exactly what we wanted.”

Agile has used RED cameras now on more than 20 productions. “It never fails to impress,” says Shakinovsky. “We've now got the post production workflow down pat, and I would say to anyone else that once you've nailed that, the RED is an excellent and efficient option for a production.”
