Wolfgirl film being shot RED EPIC funded by Kickstarter!

Wolfgirl film being shot RED EPIC funded by Kickstarter!

A team of ambitious filmmakers & FX artists in the UK are collaborating to create a live action film inspired by one of Japan's most celebrated animated features: Princess Mononoke. Even tho Wolf Girl is pitched as a fan film "For fans, by fans", this ambitious short looks set to break the fan film mould and deliver something truly fantastic.

The passion of Wolf Girl's Director Nate Drake and the script he has put forward, has attracted talent from every area of the creative industries. The team of volunteers has also earned support from major VFX houses & Production Companies, advising from behind the scenes. It's clear that cinematic production value is Drake’s goal. The projects Kickstarter page promises live action puppets, giant CGi wolves and a sweeping coming of age story.

The Wolf Girl team have already invested in producing a cinematic trailer as proof of concept. D.O.P. Andrew Martin shot on the RED Epic, utilizing Zeiss Distagon glass supplied by VMI to achieve the trailers dreamlike blush and bloom visuals.

Producer Georgie Yukiko Donovan enthuses “The results we achieved with the Zeiss lenses were really impressive and it doesn’t feel like we had to compromise any quality to fit the budget.”

Martin chose to shoot on the Red Epic as he finds RED HDR shooting most responsive when shooting in the high-contrast forest environment. Achieving atmospheric, cinema style on a budget demands a careful choice of lenses and the Zeiss Distagons primes certainly delivered without breaking the projects no-lo development budget. In it's first few weeks the trailer has earned 225,000 Youtube Views and growing rapidly!

Director Nate Drake observes: “There’s a world of tools to choose from but as an indie filmmaker you have to find the right balance between the style your film needs and the budget you can raise.”

Like so many independent filmmakers in the UK the Wolf Girl team are crowd funding via Kickstarter to raise the additional funds needed to bring Wolf Girl to life. Backers can choose rewards including limited edition collectables, props from the movie, and opportunities to visit the set or even be featured in the film!

This is one of the most impressive fantasy projects to come out of the UK and an intriguing cross-culture experiment. The Wolf Girl team are inviting backers to share the adventure and pledge to help them invest in essential materials, locations and tools
