Canon EOS 5D MKIII DSLR camera with full Super-35 sensor is the successor to the popular 5D Mk II.
This camera is suitable for both stills and video applications and like the 5D MkII, features a full-frame sensor and the marketing hype describe this as "improved performance in virtually every area."

Frankly, we are not convinced that increasing the sensor from 21.1 to 22.3 Megapixels is going to be noticeable but it is the latest offering, so of course we stock it but importantly, the maximum file time for one scene has been increased 29min 59sec (Max single file size 4GB) which is a great improvement on the 5D MkII!

Up to 6 frames per second (fps) stills shooting; a 61-point AF system and 63-zone metering.  Powered by the latest DIGIC 5+ processing technology, the EOS 5D Mark III also features enhanced video functions, offering improved image quality alongside greater audio control – redefining creative possibilities for photographers and amateur videographers alike.

The widespead acclaim of the 5D MkII will ensure that the MkIII will be widely accepted and it is a bit more money to hire than the Mk II.  However, it still can't shoot audio easily, has no timecode input or output, no clean HDMI feed for external recording, still reduces the viewfinder resolution whilst recording but these are not new problems - they are the same as the 5D MkII!  Our opinion is that if you want to shoot video, then do consider instead the Canon C300 which is much easier for video, due to superior monitoring, audio, timecode etc etc!

Essential Accessory

Why not upgrade to include a full ARRI Cage kit with additional mounting points, secure handle and large 'coffin case' to allow a fully assembled camera to be transported.

Features

  • 22.3MP full frame CMOS sensor, (36mm x 24mm).
  • DIGIC 5+ processor, delivers split-second start-up times, Face Detection AF in Live View mode.
  • ISO range up to 6400 for handheld shooting in low light expandable to 25600.
  • Full HD (1080, 30fps) movie recording
  • High-res 3.0” VGA LCD with Live View, features 920,000 dot resolution, wide viewing angle and dual anti-reflective coatings
  • 3.9fps JPEG shooting up to card capacity
  • 9-point AF + 6 Assist AF points
  • HDMI connection allows High Definition playback of footage and images on an HDTV.

With no cropping or magnification effects, enjoy a true wide angle experience through the large, bright viewfinder. Redesigned pixels minimise noise.

Lens Mount

This camera has a native Canon EOS stills lens mount and VMI stock various EF autofocus zoom lenses but we feel that the best optical image quality is afforded by the Zeiss Distagon DSLR Prime lenses. VMI supply the Zeiss Distagon DSLR lenses with a manual iris ring and EF mount plus Rayqual adapters to EOS to fit the Canon DSLR cameras optimised for video work.

The Marshall 7" LCD HDMI monitor is a good option for DSLR cameras.
