Sony A7S Mark II mirrorless DSLR Camera with Sony E mount, capable of shooting 25p video and 4K on board.

A new 4K DSLR camera capable of stunning still images and also 4K video too on board.

The performance of the A7s is indeed impressive, as are the pictures from it.

A 12.2MP 35mm full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor, a 3.0-inch 921K-dot tilting LCD monitor, an XGA 2.36M-dot OLED electronic viewfinder, Sony’s BIONZ X image processor, fast intelligent 25-point AF system, NFC, WiFi and 4K and Full HD video recording in XAVC S.

Lens Mount

This camera has a native Sony E mount mount and VMI supplies a Metabones electronic EF adapter as standard with this camera, so that you can use EF autofocus lenses.  However, we can also supply Zeiss ZF adapters to use  Zeiss Distagon DSLR Prime lenses . VMI supply the Zeiss Distagon DSLR lenses with a manual iris ring. PL lens adapters are also available without charge on request

You can still use Super 35mm APS-C size and use cinema lenses, or indeed full-frame stills lenses with Metabone Speedboosters (provided you are shooting in APS-C format).

You can also use the native E-Mount Sony 28-135 power zoom lens directly on this camera.

Video Capability

It is only fair to advise that whilst the still pictures are superb, moving images are susceptible to jelloing (bending vertical lines), so if you have a lot of movement, then be aware of this, though some DoPs wonder what all of the fuss is about!

Saying that however, Full HD quality video can be recorded as XAVC S format at the 50Mbps data rate that’s highly regarded by professional videographers.In APS-C crop mode, the α7S supports high frame rate shooting at 120fps or 100fps with HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels). The 120fps footage can be played back at 24p for a 5x slow-motion effect – ideal for seeing every detail of sports action.Professional videographers will also benefit from features such as Picture Profile™ for wide ranging visual expression and S-Log2 gamma.

4K On Board Record Now

The Sony A7S II is also capable of internal UHD 4K recording at 30 fps with full pixel readout as well as 1080p recording at up to 120 fps, all in the XAVC S format. For both stills and video recording.

Timecode / user bit functions allow pro-style editing workflow, while an optional XLR Adaptor Microphone Kit supports high-quality audio acquisition.

  • 4k video output on HDMI
  • For fantastic 4K recording and monitoring, pair the A7S with the Odyssey 7Q+ (not 7Q) or Atomos Shogun 4K
  • ISO RANGE

Standard – Still = 100 – 102400, Movie = 200 – 102400
Expandable – Still = 50 – 409600, Movie = 200- 409600
Some crazy ISO numbers there and amazingly a lot of them are actually usable.

FRAME RATES
HD = 60p, 601, 50p, 50i, 30p, 25p, 24p.
4K = 30p, 24p, 25p

Features

  • 18MP APS-C CMOS sensor
  • 8 frames per second continuous shooting
  • 1080p HD video recording with manual controls
  • 3.0 inch Clear View II LCD screen with 920,000 dots
  • 19-point AF system (all cross-type)
  • 1.0x magnification and 100% coverage viewfinder
  • Wireless flash control

In summary, it shoots very good 4K video on board with the same full-size sensor as a 5D Mk III.

Essential Accessories

Why not upgrade to include a full DSLR A7S Cage kit with additional mounting points, secure handle and large 'coffin case' to allow a fully assembled camera to be transported.

Also, if you want to use Canon EF lenses, be sure to hire either a Metabones Electronic E mount-EF adapter or Metabones E Mount to EF Speedbooster to fit EF mount lenses with full autofocus capability.
