Latest Canon EF lenses increase functionality of latest Canon 5D/C300 III/C500II cameras

Canon’s autofocus technology has continued to improve and the latest dual pixel CMOS AF system is the most sophisticated ever, allowing smooth, high-performance focus tracking and face detection on the Canon C300 Mk II and C500 Mk II cameras.

New Generation Canon EF Lenses

However, in order to take most advantage of this new functionality, the user needs to use the latest lenses as well, specifically with long focal lengths, where a very shallow depth of field is generated.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF is a sensor-based, phase detection Auto Focus (AF) technology designed to provide smooth, high-performance focus tracking in movies and fast autofocus acquisition when shooting still photos in Live View mode which features on the Canon C300 III and Canon C500 II models.

It is a unique, Canon-developed technology, ideal for creating professional-looking pull-focus effects and keeping a subject moving towards the user in sharp focus whilst maintaining a blurred background – a defining characteristic of EOS Movies.

All Canon EF, EF-S, and EF-M lenses with autofocus can take advantage of Dual Pixel CMOS AF and specifically the latest Canon C300 MK III and Canon C500 Mk II cameras.

Certain discontinued lenses and lens and extender combinations cannot use Dual Pixel CMOS AF for high speed focus drive. In these cases Dual Pixel CMOS AF obtains the correct direction of focus before automatically switching to contrast detection. This is faster than contrast detect autofocus alone. Performance in Movie Servo AF mode, which uses slow speed drive, is not affected.
