Blog / News Ali Wilson is leaving VMI after 15 long and fruitful years. 1 May 2025 — by Barry Bassett Ali first joined us in the late 2010s straight from university as a fresh-faced runner and his first job was taking images of VMI equipment for our (then) new website. After a 6-month internship, he became our first transport coordinator, before deciding to join the freelance world as a location Scout.A couple of years in, Ali told us that he was fed-up with being the first to arrive on set and then the last to leave and it was always his job to negotiate with budding DIYers to put-off using their power tools until we had finished filming. (Obviously filming was more important than mending their fence!)So it was that Ali rejoined VMI in June 2012, initially as a Client Contact and worked his way up to becoming a Senior client contact and a couple of years later, as Senior Drama Client Contact.(He is a keen cyclist and joined the VMI Superheroes squad to raise money to clear Landmines, cycling London to Amsterdam and then London to Bristol during the three years of 2017-2019. The image is of him arriving in Bristol for the final 2019 ride to Bristol). He has a young family and after 15 years, has decided to entirely change careers and join the railway industry, which will mean less travel and more flexible working. He has become an indispensable member of our team and we will miss him. We all wish him the very best.Barry Bassett
