VMI Bristol 10th Anniversary Lens Events 21/22 Jan

In partnership with Bristol Film School (Boomsatsuma) and our friends at Bristol Crew, we are hosting 2 events on 21/22 January on LENSES!

To celebrate our VMI Bristol branch’s 10^th Year as part of the thriving Bristol filming community, we are looking to invite our clients, friends and collaborators to join us to mark the occasion.

We are planning a couple of days where people can come together to get their hands on some kit, have a play and a chat, and catch up with friends and hopefully meet some new faces. And after the turbulent few years we have just gone through, we know that having that sense of community, is essential.

However, we thought it would be fun to do something a little bit different than the usual rental house come and see the latest kit event, so we are working with the wonderful people at the Bristol Film School, part of Boomsatsuma, who are lending us their studio for a couple of days, as we all know that the one thing that is better than seeing some kit, is seeing a lot of kit.

We are going to be taking advantage of one of the amazing sets built by the team for a shoot for the Bristol School of Acting sets in their Brislington Studio.

So on Tuesday 21^st of this month, We are planning a range of side-by-side comparisons, where people can see the various ranges of camera and lenses along-side each other and have a chance to compare and see for themselves the differences, and help to know the right tool for the right occasion.

We planning to have a range of cameras including the Arri 35, Arri Alexa Mini (standard and LF), Sony Venice 2, RED Raptor VV and whatever high-end toys we have available in our warehouse.

As for lenses, we are going to be comparing as many of our High-End primes sets, so we can see how some of the more recent sets of primes such as the tribe 7 Blackwing T-Tuned, Gecko Genesis G35,  Zeiss Supremes, compare against the more the classic Cooke S4i, Zeiss Ultra Primes and the K35 lenses.

We are always aware of the increasing restraints on budgets these days, so we will also look to potentially have so of the amazing low-cost full frame camera and lenses, as we know it is not about the cost of something that gives it it’s value.

Basically if it is not out on hire, and we thing it will be fun to play with, we are aiming to have it there for the day.

This will be followed on the Wednesday 22^nd when we are going to invite some local DPs, camera ops, camera crew to come and have a more immersive play session. We will have all the kit from the previous day, along with a wide selection of lighting, and invite them to create and film a series of shots with differing lenses set on a camera of their choice.  Basically, have a play, experiment and feed off one and other in a more realistic filming environment than your traditional test room set up.

We can promise though that what we will have one the day with not only be interesting but also a lot of fun.  Book now!

Day 2: Wednesday 22 Jan; 3 hour Immersive Play Sessions

• 10am-1pm
• 2pm-5pm
