Canon C200 (EOS Mount) 4K Camcorder

S35 Sensor with 4K RAW record capability

£161/day
£483/week

This is an interesting 4K alternative camera to the Canon C300 II in EOS mount, as it has a smaller footprint to the C300 II and is able to record internally to RAW (Cinema RAW Light), 4K UHD/50P MP4, 4K DCI RAW and up to 120fps in full HD without crop onto CFast 2 cards whilst retaining Canon's excellent dual pixel auto focus system.  However, it doesn't record Prores, for which you still require to use the C300 Mk I or Mk II.

Be aware that recording such detailed images means that file sizes will be much larger and so recording durations will be compromised.

Features

  • Internal 4K recording with Cinema RAW Light or MP4 format
  • Continuous 120fps (maximum) High Frame Rate with no cropping at Full HD
  • Up to 15-stops dynamic range (Cinema RAW Light)
  • Professional High Quality image and audio
  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF with touch control and extensive shooting functions

4K Internal RAW Record

Unusually for such a low-level camera, it is capable of internal 4K RAW recording using a new format called Cinema RAW light up to 4K/50p onto internal CFast 2 cards to capture 15 stops of dynamic range.

High Quality UHD recording, XAVC up to 160 MBs or MP4 at up to 150 Mbps

Record easy to ingest XF-AVC* or MP4 files to low cost SD cards, with up to 13-stops of dynamic range.

Dual SD Card Slots

Record proxies, make an immediate backup or enable relay recording for continuous shoots.

Record Canon Log/Log3

Another option for log record is provided with the C200 – Canon Log 3 offers 13-stops of dynamic range for more demanding grades, while Canon Log captures details in the highlights and shadows with 12-stops to better integrate with footage from earlier Cinema EOS cameras.

High Speed Capture – upto 120p in full HD

Although this is only HD quality, the important thing to note here is that it does so without a crop.

Autofocus that really works (AKA Dual Pixel CMOS AF Technology, like the C300 Mk II)

The C200 amazingly provides continuous AF (Autofocus) function for all autofocus lenses, using Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology. A new AF Lock setting also lets you change the image framing while holding the desired focus. This feature works well and is practical for location shooting, as it doesn’t hunt.   This may even work with Canon electronic HD zooms and Canon film zoom lenses which feature integral servo focus modules (To be tested).

Canon explain why this autofocus is so good with the paragraph below.  We just know that it seems to work well!

Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology features a CMOS sensor that consists of an array of pixels that each feature two separate photodiodes. By continuously comparing their outputs during AF mode, phase-difference autofocus helps ensure non-blurred images and smooth focus transitions even when the talent and/or camera are moving. The new feature places a high priority on maintaining sharp focus while providing a natural, smooth autofocus movement with select Canon EF lenses – including newer-generation STM lenses – which offer even smoother and quieter operation

10 Stops of ND built in

The EOS C200 includes built-in optical ND filters with 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 stops of control saving production time with quick and easy push button operation.

Wifi Remote Control and Preview

Built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet support enables a highly useful Browser Remote control and image preview capability from a computer or mobile device, essential for when mounted on a drone or crane.

Modular Construction

The EOS C200 body is compact and easily handheld at just over 1.4kg (3 lb). The body has a modular design that can either be stripped down completely or be built up.

The optional Electronic Viewfinder EVF-V70 can be used in bright ambient conditions and utilises an exceptional Full HD OLED screen that has excellent colour reproduction characteristics, plus built-in camera controls that are ideal for the single user (not supplied).

The camcorder features one 3G-SDI output and HDMI output but no timecode I/O, and genlock input BNCs – for this, you require the C300 Mk II.

Ergonomonic control layout

A logical layout of buttons and dials make operation simple. A lock switch turns off all controls except the recording button and function buttons. Small ridges between the buttons help prevent activating functions by mistake. A backlit display panel is great for low-light viewing. A tally lamp is clearly visible from the side or behind the camera.

Rugged, Durable & Quiet

In common with the other EOC camera family, the EOS C200 has a dust-proof and splash-proof design includes sealing gaskets around the edges of all access covers, dials fitted with O-rings on the axis of rotation, and button key-tops sealed with rubber.

Good Audio Controls

The camera provides two XLR audio inputs with +48V phantom power. 2 x 3.5mm microphone terminal is also built in to the camera. Audio is recorded uncompressed in 16-bit PCM format at 48 kHz for high fidelity sound. Both XLR inputs, as well as the mic terminal have the option for automatic, as well as full manual gain control (-Infinity to +18dB). Additionally, a 3.5mm headphone terminal with 16 volume settings offers accurate audio monitoring.

An optional K6/ME66 Gun Mic and Headphone package is available at £12 per day including boom pole & cables in a single case.
