LED Lighting Technology has been progressing at a rapid pace, with each generation improving brightness, performance and colour accuracy than before, to the point where modern fixtures are scarcely comparable with the early 1×1 litepanels and there are fixtures and solutions available today which are suitable for all applications.
Where once serious DPs were wary of using LEDs, the latest lights now provide a credible alternative to conventional tungsten, fluorescent and HMI lighting technology without compromise and making TV programmes more sustainably is in everybody’s interest but the extensive range of lights now available is challenging for all of us.
VMI is launching a series of 3-hour in-person workshops to directly compare and contrast the latest generation lights for busy producers and crew alike, so attendees can experience the raw power of a 1.2KW LED COP fixture and appreciate how it compares with a 2.5K HMI. A studio-based lighting workshop is vastly superior to viewing websites alone and since so much has changed since pre-COVID times, we have a lot to show you!
This will be an opportunity to compare and contrast differing lighting technologies in order to enable filmmakers to make an informed opinion and update their lighting knowledge.
We are planning to demonstrate a lot of lights, including the latest LED/COP generation plus more traditional fixtures, in order to provide a useful comparison exercise. This is a provisional list, since the availability of every model is not 100% assured but expect a terrific selection in any case.
VMI has invested heavily in the latest lighting technologies during 2022 and has won a grant from Ealing Council to promote high efficiency lighting technologies, which are good for the climate. By running these courses with Ealing Council’s support and in conjunction with West London College in Ealing Green, we are able to provide these courses to you entirely without charge.
VMI are working with the excellent facilities provided by West London College to host these events.
This is at their Ealing Green Campus, the home of the original BBC Ealing Studios. West London College’s studio is 13mx10m and is on the first floor of the main building. Entrance for visitors is via the reception.
