With the increase in VoD services and a drive to bring the cinematic experience in to the living room, there have been several advances from both manufacturers and creative professionals to enhance the immersive power of their imaging.

For example, do you know your 2.40:1 and a 2:1 squeeze on a 4:3 sensor from a 1.8 squeeze on a 3:2 with a 2.35:1 extraction from the 2.7:1? Or do you go FF/LF with spherical lenses that cover the larger sensors and go 2:1 aspect ratio?

Some of this kit is not new, indeed some of the principles are nearly seventy years old, but the usage and ambition is bang up to date and might need a bit of myth busting.  For instance, the necessity of shooting in 4K for some platforms does not always allow for the most elegant solutions.

VMI is hosting a three day event in January at CVP’s new flagship demonstration facility on Newman St W1. There will be three sessions a day and numbers are limited per session in order to preserve adequate ‘facetime’ with the kit and staff NOT as usual, at VMI's West London HQ.

We will be featuring new Full Frame cameras such as the Sony Venice and Alexa LF along with 4:3 and 16:9 super 35mm cameras to demonstrate the differences in perspective and field of view available. A plethora of lenses will be on hand to exhibit the differences at the sharp end and will include new offerings from Leica and Cooke along with more established ranges from Zeiss, Sigma, Tokina, Cooke, Kowa and Atlas.

The idea of this event is to showcase creative and technical differences between anamorphic shooting and acquisition on full frame sensors, especially in terms of perspective, aspect ratio and depth of field with three installations in different rooms and also with specially shot material which will show side-by side comparisons.

This is a focused event designed to demonstrate and allow a ‘hands on’ appraisal for industry professionals keen to keep abreast of a fluid dynamic in acquisition in a relaxed and non ‘sales’ environment.

Attendance is free of charge and registration is now open.

We look forward to seeing you there.
