Canon Cine Zoom
Canon’s latest cabrio lens with a very useful 25-250mm focal range in a compact housing. Just like its big brother, the CN20x50, this smaller, more compact lens joins Canon’s lens parade to provide a very useful focal range in a shoulder-mounted lens. The built-in 1.5x lens extender allows Full Frame coverage too with a very useful 37.5-375mm focal range.
This extends Canon’s Cabrio range to include a shoulder-mounted lens with a longer range than the 17-120mm offered by the popular CN7 and only weighing 3kg, so extremely portable and can be hand-held, in contrast to the CN20 (50-1000mm), which can not.
This offers a comparable range to the long documentary lenses previously only available to 2/3″ B4 cameras (such as PMW-500 and PDW-F800) and includes a PL mount compatible with ARRI Amira, RED EPIC, Canon C500 and other similar cameras AND achieves full 4K resolution as well.
Additionally, it also offers a 1.5x range extender which fully covers 36x24mm to fully cover FF and which actually increases the possible range to 375mm – albeit with an appropriate loss in sensitivity, though worth mentioning that environments where the long range is required would generally be outdoors where there is plenty of light and sensitivity is not an issue.
It is not physically much larger than other zooms and only weighs 3.6kg, so it is a perfect complement to Natural History or other productions where portability and range are important considerations.
